Confused with crochet

Postby becky1978 » Fri Aug 13, 2010 6:11 pm

Ok now I am really confused. When I was teaching myself to do it, I was holding the wool in my right hand, but when I look on you tube they are holding it in their right hand, sort of like in continental knitting (which I cant do at all!)

I just cant seem to get how to hold the wool like that, they make it look so easy but I feel all fingers and thumbs.

Can I just crochet with the wool in my right hand?

Are you left or right handed. I'm right handed and hold the hook in my right hand and the yarn in my left. I do hold the yarn differently though as I hold the piece of work between my thumb and index finger and put the yarn over my middle finger.

I'm right handed. I'm holding the hook in my left hand and the wool in my right so i'm using the right hand to move the wool. I knit 'english' style rather than 'continental' style so wondered if there was a difference with crochet?

I knit with the yarn in my right hand english style too. I was taught to hold a crochet hook in my right hand by my mum when I was little, but think that I'd want it in my right hand anyway as I have more control over it. As long as the hook feels comfortable in your left hand I don't think it matters. Then the yarn goes in the opposite hand so your right hand.
